I wanted to note that I'm not just picking on our fundamentalist friends. All of our denominations have their divisions. There are so many things that divide us. And it's not just interdenominational - it's within our own congregations too. It's amazing to me that so much of the New Testament is devoted to how we should live in Christian community, but how little we adhere to it. I believe that one of the reasons we are in this state is because we have spent so much time in our teaching and preaching emphasizing some our differences to the detriment of the basic tenents of our faith. While we should never avoid confronting false teaching wherever it may be, we should not be known solely by what we are against, but what we are for - the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Great article Marc. I think the problem you spoke of is far too prevalent in the realm of Christianity. There are far too many with an elitist attitude with no distinction between opinion and orthodoxy. The church is described as being so powerful the gates of hell cannot prevail against it. Yet the effectiveness of the amazingly powerful church can be completely neutralized by narrow minded infighting. It's interesting, stuff that's inside the body (cancer i.e.) kills more people than what's outside the body (bullets i.e.).
"Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it."
