Christiana Ayscue Charged With Abusing Child

lddqsn lddqshayscuechristianajulia121310114607am Christiana Ayscue Charged With Abusing ChildOn December 11th, 2010, my cousin, Joshua Haynes, returned home from work to find his two year old son, Parker Haynes, unconscious with fractures to his skull, a cut to his head and bruising to his face, chest, arms and back.  He had been left in the babysitting care of Christiana Ayscue.  Doctors at UNC Hospitals found that the injuries were the result of a severe beating.  Investigators with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office charged Christiana Ayscue with Felonious Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury.  She is being held in the Alamance County Detention Center under $750,000 bond. As I understand it, Christiana Ayscue could be facing 5-7 years in prison under North Carolina’s Structured Sentencing Guidelines.  Not nearly enough for the crime charged.

There has been a tremendous outpouring of support and prayer for Parker.  Initially, doctors were unsure that he would survive the first day following the assault.  They had to put him into a medically induced coma in order to minimize swelling of his brain, which could have been fatal.  After a week of being under medication and allowing the swelling to subside, doctors have given Parker a good outlook.  He is coming out of the coma and testing indicates that he will have minimal permanent damage.  Parker is our Christmas Miracle.

Continue to pray for Parker as he heals.

    1. I completely understand that as Parker is a member of your family you must be really angry and feel that you want to do as much as you can for him. I’m so glad he is getting better and so, so sad that he was put through this.
But it’s kinda strange that you posted this before a trial, because I always thought that in the USA that until a trial has been held and all the evidence heard, that a person was innocent until proven guilty and that as a policeman you would know this.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it is awful what has happened to Parker, but my problem is that as a pastor your responsibility is to love the sinner and hate the sin, and yeah though the sin can be awful, it’s not your job to make things worse, your job is to be there spiritually and pray. By posting this blog and picture, you are in the wrong, “judge not lest you be judged.”
God doesn’t see sin as in different catagories, sin is sin is sin. Murder is as bad as lying is as bad as any other crime. It’s God who punishes not us. Our job as Christians is to love unconditionally, hard as it is, but that’s how HE loves us, then leave the rest to HIM. “Vengence is Mine saith the Lord I will repay.”
I know my own sin disgusts me more than anothers. How about yours? So I’m kinda sad that you have compromised yourself and this case by not just posting news about Parker and leaving the rest to the criminal justice system.

    2. Dear Mrs. McKelvie,

I understand that we know quite a few of the same folks, including the Ayscues. (it’s amazing what information can be found on the internet). I’ve also been told by one of my family members that friends of the Ayscues have been contacting our family friends and asking them to remove any links or comments on these news articles. That’s not going to happen, especially through what I perceive to be “christian” intimidation like you’ve tried here.

Your comment doesn’t really deserve a response, but I’ll humor you with a reply because I despise ignorance.

“I always thought that in the USA that until a trial has been held and all the evidence heard, that a person was innocent until proven guilty”…I haven’t posted anything about her guilt or innocence. The incident is popular local news – I posted information and links from local news media. The whole idea of innocent until proven guilty is a legal concept that has absolutely nothing to do with whether someone is truly guilty of something or not. There are different types of guilt, moral and legal. Legal guilt gets a trial, moral guilt doesn’t. Link: Guilt – Moral And Legal Guilt

“your job as a pastor”…I’m not a pastor.

“By posting this blog and picture, you are in the wrong”…Again, it’s news and the picture is the one that’s on every news site.

“judge not lest ye be judged”…well that settles it. Your quoting a small line from Scripture has convinced me that no one should ever pass judgment on anyone else. Let’s cancel all pending trials immediately. On another note, didn’t you just write that I am “in the wrong.” Isn’t that judging? If you’re holding other people to your interpretation of Scripture, be willing to hold yourself to the same standard.

“God doesn’t see sin as in different categories” and “Murder is as bad as lying is as bad as any other crime.”…Seems to me that God hates all sin, but some more than others since Proverbs 6:16-19 says,
“These six things doth the LORD hate; yea, seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginiations, feet that be sweift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”

“It’s God who punishes, not us.”…So, let’s empty those prisons.

“my own sin disgusts me more than anothers. How about yours?”…Mine disgusts me too, but at least I’m honest enough to admit that sometimes other people do things that shock the conscience in a horrific way that makes my sins seem a bit smaller in comparison.

“you have compromised yourself and this case”…how does compiling news links compromise anything?

In my little world, this is the big news story and a matter of public interest. Furthermore, it’s my family’s story. This is a personal blog site where I post things that interest me, this story is no exception and the post will remain.

    3. I’m sure this is hard on everyone involved. :( I feel like the blog you posted wasn’t that judgemental and everyone has the right to cope in their own way. For innocent children I think its good to not take these situations lightly. I used to be friends with christiana and I know mark. Too many people are trying to get in the middle and put their 2 cents in. In this sensitive time everyone should continue to pray and respect the families(both of them) and let this process and unfold. I am just glad that from what I’ve read parker is going to be ok! I hope he gets better quickly!
